For a country as the Netherlands I expected that they had an official Apple store but for the first time it will open its doors tomorrow at Leidseplein in Amsterdam at 10 a.m. and it is not just a store...

Fenia Labropoulou @ Underground "A fashion photo trip"

As part of the series "Meet the designer" this friday, the 2nd of March at the store in Kolonaki, Underground invited fashion photographer Fenia Labropoulou to present a part of her work. The opening of the exhibition "A fashion photo trip" is at 6 o'clock and will stay at Skoufa 35 for two weeks.

Not only the photographs will be at the boutique, also a bazaar with clothes from greek fashion designers Celebrity Skin, Apostolos Mitropoulos, Maria Patelis, SMOF (ΣΜΟΦ) and Joy Seek.

So save the date to join Underground and meet Fenia Labropoulou at their boutique in Kolonaki.

As photographer I am always looking at the inspiring work of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. This time the well known photographers duo was asked by Peter Copping to direct a short film, expressing their vision of the Nina Ricci spring/summer 2012 collection.

Peter Copping’s aerial and romantic universe in combination with Inez & Vinoodh’s deep and strange world, brought us a very unusual movie.
Directed by the couple, Raquel Zimmermann hypnotizes us, and engrosses us in her breathless ethereal trance. This piece gives a new and original perspective of Nina Ricci’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection.
The movie as well -as the campaign- was shot in Old Westbury in Long Island, N-Y, USA, and is broadcasted in Nina Ricci’s shops from the 27th of February, and presented to the press on the March 1st at the Autumn/Winter show.

Appointed creative director of the House in 2009, in every collection he designed for Nina Ricci Peter Copping always managed to capture the essence of felinity. He creates a graceful silhouette with a subtly pared-back playful sensuality; working with powdery hues similar to the sensual and satin aspects of the skin, evoking the world of dreams and emerging the image of the Ricci woman with a vision of spontaneous authenticity.

Therefore Peter Copping remains faithful to the House’s vision of felinity, and its sophisticated luxuriousness yet intentionally relaxed style. By combining sumptuous materials with soft draping, tailoring and her ability to capture the essence, Nina Ricci became synonymous with contemporary fashion. Greek celebrities in Marni at H&M

On March the 8th is the launch of Marni at H&M worldwide, let us have a closer look at Marni and how greek celebrities could wear this new collection.

Marni is known for its distinct patterns and designs. Colorful, modern and many all-over prints. Founder and creative director Consuelo Castiglioni designed the H&M spring collection to reflect the true signature of Marni for both men and women. She wanted all of her favorite patterns and colors with characteristic materials and designs to be in the collection, combining tribal motifs with Bauhaus prints for a sporty look.

Marni's collection for H&M is mostly about freedom and experimentation. The aim of Marni's prints and colors is to combine them in a playful way. African prints are the basis for the Bauhaus style and sporty silhouettes merge with feminine shapes. The collection also includes shoes, bags and elegant accessories to complete the Marni look at H&M.
For males, Marni used subtle prints and softer colors.
Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor of H&M says:"It is fantastic to see how Consuelo Castiglioni with its impressive craftsmanship of her designs is due to new combinations of patterns and colors."

But back to Athens, thinking of the collaboration of H&M and Versace and which greek celebrities joined the press preview I would love to see the following celebrities in the following style.

So I would love it if she will be wearing it like in the ad campaign with the cardigan, the white collar, the stockings, the belt but instead of the flat shoes I prefer the high heels and add a white bracelet of the collection.

The guest DJ of the press preview is George Satsidis, so I think I would love to see him in this outfit. Only I am not so sure about the 7/8 trousers...

H&M asked greek fashion bloggers to post a trendy article on the collaboration between H&M and Marni. The post with the most likes get a total look by Marni at H&M and will be interviewed for the exclusive video of the press preview. So that is why a lot of fashion bloggers are sending a lot of mails, tweets and messages on facebook about this special post. Have a look at all of them and decide which one is your favorite and see on Tuesday the 28th of February which one gets the price! And the winners are Claire and Vasia of Fashion Has It, I loved the collage and Tasos of Posh Fashion with his choice of the men's collection.

As you see the women's collection had vibrant colors and strong patterns, African inspired or simple block colors. The silhouettes are typically Marni: pleated skirts, dresses, 7/8 pants and jacquard knitwear, silk and cotton poplin.
Sofia Coppola did a great job for Marni at H&M, if you haven't seen it yet, now it is the chance!

Three weeks left before Athens Exclusive Designers Week starts in the capital of Greece and Sephora's Make Up For Ever is supporting Greek Fashion Design!
Also Sephora organizes a contest to give fashion and beauty bloggers the possibility to win an exclusive backstage pass of a show and a VIP frontrow seat!

The contest exists of two parts. The first one starts on the 29th of February by sending a mini CV to Sephora and selecting your favorite make up of the 10th AXDW and explaining why you selected this one in a small essay. By the way all the shows of last season you can find on my blog! (Fill in 10th AXDW in the search box and select the designer of your choice.)

Absolut Mode Nights Vol. 2 @ Bios

Yesterday evening was an evening full of events as you could read in my previous posts on the Red Bull Soundclash and the party of Rythmos 949 with Elli Kokkinou and Panos Kalidis. But in a city like Athens there are of course fashion shows! Charalampos Nikolaou and Vassilis Barbarigos presented their summer collections at Bios as part of the Absolut Mode Nights Vol.2.

At the entrance of Bios Absolut Vodka had put a stand asking what is your fashion ID...

And you could get photographed with an ID.

Vegas vs Melisses @ Red Bull Soundclash

Yesterday evening at Building 56 in Athens Red Bull organized for the first time in Greece the SOUNDCLASH. Greek band Vegas had to compete the Greek band Melisses.

"Red Bull Soundclash is a unique musical experience that brings two bands with different sounds, styles and influences together under one roof to compete for the devotion of a room full of fans. With the bands set up on opposite stages, each group takes it in turn to improvise around a groove and then wait as the opposing band has to answer. Which band will call the tune? Which band will lift the crowd? Which band will be the ultimate winner?"

Presenter of the evening was Nikos Vourliotis and kept the crowd busy by asking everytime to support their favorite band by yelling and the decibells were counted. So the winner of the Soundclash is the band with the highest score of decibels..

The evening started with a performance by Melisses.

Followed by Vegas.

The styling of Vegas is done by Fani Polychroniou. The singer of the band is Melina Makri is and was wearing a design by Celebrity Skin.

The shoes are designed by Freakersneaks and are specially made for this evening.

The guys are wearing designs by Konstantinos Mitrovgenis.

The surprise of the evening was the appearance of Elena Paparizou, joining the Melisses. Vassilis Karras performed with Vegas.

Posh Fashion meets Erotokritos @ Musique Couture

Every Sunday evening FashionFreaks presents Musique Couture at Lalu in Kolonaki, a quarter of Athens. Yesterday evening special guest was Tasos of Posh Fashion presenting his new line of scarves, developed together with Nikos of Erotokritos Fashion.

Anthi, Ioanna, Ria and Stella of Models Only Agency wearing outfits by fashion designer Ourania Kay presented the colorful scarves of Posh Fashion. The combination of different materials, prints and colors made the scarves unique and in Tasos own words: Posh!

Styling seminar Fashion Talks @ Fashion Workshop by Vicky Kaya

Yesterday at Fashion Workshop by Vicky Kaya in the center of Athens started the styling seminar Fashion Talks: The truth behind a styling career by masters and experts of the fashion world.

The first seminar was about working within a fashion magazine, experts of several greek magazines were invited to talk about their experience:
Publishing director Stella Rapti of Madame Figaro,
Fashion Production and Bookings Editor Athina Nikis of Votre Beauté and Marriage,
Fashion director of Vogue Michael Pandos,
Fashion director Nikolas Georgiou of Votre Beauté and editor at Dapper Dan,
Creative art director Angelos Pantelidis and consultant at TwoOneZero ,
Photographer Mara Desipri
and Journalist Mia Kollia.

It was an interesting conversation about the do's and don't's within a fashion magazine.
The most important message was that there must be an excellent cooperation between the different departments within the magazine. Fashion, Creative art and Publishing director should work as a team, aiming at the same goal and keeping the same image of their magazine in every issue. Communication skills are a must, the publising director puts it in words while the creative art director must translate these words in an image by using moodboards to share it with the fashion director, the photographer, the make up artist, the hairstylist and the model.
Also the advertising department within a magazine plays an important part in the final result.
Especially at the moment where the clients of the magazine, the advertising companies and fashion houses demands more and more. As fashion director you get limited in your creativity by being obliged to use garments or accessories from one of these clients or not to be allowed to combined some brands together in one editorial and the budget...It demands even more of the creativity of a fashion director.
Although Michael Pandos of Vogue assured us that there is still some space in the magazines for independent editorials, for newcomers in the fashion industry, as long as it supports the style of the magazine.

Greek fashion design @ Hellenic Centre in London

Six Universal Greek Fashion Designers from the collection of the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation and Three Contemporary Greek Designers will be participating at the exhibition in the Great Hall of the Hellenic Centre in London, 16-18 Paddington Street from Monday 12 March to Thursday 22 March.

Creations by the international Greek designers Jean Dessès, Yiannis Evangelides, James Galanos, Dimis Kritsas, George Stavropoulos and Yiannis Tseklenis will be complemented by those of the well-known contemporary designers Mary Katrantzou, Sophia Kokosalaki and Marios Schwab.

Celebrities celebrate the launch of Marni at H&M

Last night in Los Angeles, Drew Barrymore, Winona Ryder and Milla Jovovich were among the guests who attended a party to celebrate the launch of Marni at H&M. Held in a beautiful Hollywood residence, the event was hosted by Marni’s Founder and Creative Director, Consuelo Castiglioni, the Director of the Marni at H&M campaign, Sofia Coppola and Margareta van den Bosch, H&M´s Creative Advisor. As well as Drew, Winona and Milla, other guests arriving at the party dressed in Marni at H&M included Jessica Chastain, Freida Pinto and Andrea Riseborough. The collection will be available from March 8 in around 260 stores worldwide, as well as on-line.

Lancome proudly announced that her ambassadress Kate Winslet on February 24^th will be honored at the 37^th César Awards at the Châtelet Theater in Paris. Kate Winslet will receive an Honorary César Award for her entire career.

The César Academy and its President, Alain Terzian, have voted this year to honor the Academy Award-winning actress for her acclaimed work in such films as “The Reader” (Best Actress in 2009), “Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind”, “Revolutionary Road”, “Little Children”, “Sense and Sensibility” and “Titanic”.

She can presently be seen in the new Roman Polanski film, “Carnage”. And she has just been awarded the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Mini-series or Motion Picture made for Television for her role in “Mildred Pierce”.

Clarks presents Marloes Blaas @ Amsterdam Fashion Week

During the 16th Amsterdam Fashion Week Clarks presented two young fashion designers, Jacob Kok and Marloes Blaas.
In my previous post you could read about Clarks and Jacob Kok (or click here) now let us have a look at the collection of Marloes Blaas.

Fall-Winter 2012-2013 is the fifth collection of Marloes Blaas, called 'A Common Silver Spoon' based on a Dutch saying.
Marloes used the theme literally by making actual spoons into necklaces. They were the perfect details to her winter collection inspired by the after war period.

“In other collections I used to look at the forties; this time I focused more on the fifties, a prosperous period in which everyone seemed to be doing well. It was a time of solidarity, working together and large families. Especially those family portraits intrigued me. I started looking and old photo-albums from my mother’s family (she grew up in a family of 12 children). People used to really dress up in their best clothes. They didn’t look at all like themselves, but they did put a lot of effort into those pictures. I used bits and pieces of looks from that time and translated them into something modern”.
She showed a total of 20 looks, divided into 3 themes. In the first part jewelry plays a big role. She used real silver spoons and made necklaces out of them. The clothes in this first part are heavy, dark and are made in shades of grey and black.

The second part of the collection is more tough. For this part she studied old school pictures. They inspired her to come up with several school uniforms and school bags.

For the third part, which is more about the reconstruction after the war, she used her own print with rocks. It has shades of burgundy and sand in it.

Marloes Blaas aims "Making wearable clothing for women inspired on long forgotten functionality and details."

The show of Marloes Blaas was supported by Clarks and all the shoes were by the British label. Creative director of Clarks, Paolo Gabrielli is working on a new and more contemporary imago of these wellknown shoes.

Clarks presents Jacob Kok at Amsterdam Fashion Week

During Amsterdam Fashion Week Clarks presented two young fashion designers, Jacob Kok and Marloes Blaas.
Clarks was founded in 1825 by brothers Cyrus and James and is still a privately owned business and based in the birthplace of Street, Somerset, UK. Clarks goal is to present a shoe label from contemporary looks inspired by the catwalk to the shoemaker’s craft, perfected over time.

Clarks shoes are available in Greece at The Mall Athens - Marousi and in the center of Athens at Notos Galleries - Stadiou & Aiolou and at Attica Department Store - Panepistimiou 9.

In this post about the show of Jacob Kok supported by Clarks.
The fashion crowd received a small flashlight with which they could look for treasures in his new collection, named Treasure Hunting. Instructions were given, with an example.

"Put the light between the eyes to hunt for the treasures"

And the first models as 'mine workers' appeared and the fashion crowd lighted its flashlights...

Inspired by mineworkers Jacob came up with dusty looks with special glittering details that functioned as special minerals and crystals; the treasures.
Jacob showed strong jackets and funky pants in washed off colors. Though the looks were well made, Jacob showed his passion for details and fabrics. He chose and developed (at the Textielmuseum in Tilburg) gorgeous thick fabrics with unique prints, matching his show theme.

Jacob Kok (1979) graduated in 2006 from the Theatre Design Department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam . The designer has been involved in a variety of disciplines such as, sculpture, audio-visual, music, theatre and fashion, all directed towards researching the human body.
After focusing mainly on video- and music art, the designer enters a new chapter with greater emphasizes on fashion.
Being praised for his conceptual approach and ability to create a unique story, Jacob Kok wins the 2011 edition of Project Catwalk. This recognition gives him the opportunity to present his work on the professional Amsterdam Fashion Week stage.
The AW12/13 collection will tell a story about 'fashionable' mine workers and the hidden mineral treasures they might find.

Yesterday Vassilis Zoulias opened Nolcha Fashion Week in New York, at The Ailey Studios 405 West 55th Street Ninth Avenue as part of the Athens Exclusive Designers Week project to export greek fashion global.
Vassilis Zoulias presented his fall-winter 2012-2013 demi-couture collection "NEW LOOK NEW YORK", a collection of cashmere, silk crepe marocain, satin duchesse, silk shantung, faille, taffeta and old couture techniques, styled with impressive hats, gloves and handbags.

H&M to raise funds for Fashion against Aids

Safe sex is a message that each new generation needs to hear, which is why H&M is launching its fifth Fashion Against AIDS (FAA) collection, to raise funds and create awareness about HIV/AIDS among the young. Available in around 300 H&M Divided departments from 26th April 2012, as well as online, this year’s collection brings together ethnic influences from different continents.

Special prints were commissioned from international artists and illustrators for this collection to create pieces bursting with colour, pattern and authenticity, and 25% of all sales will go directly to a variety of international youth HIV/AIDS awareness projects. So far, H&M has raised around45 million SEK from previous FAA projects.

“I love this year’s Fashion Against AIDS collection. It brings together so many global styles that send not only a powerful fashion message, but also help spread the word about HIV/AIDS awareness. It’s great that the collection includes the work of artists and illustrators from many different countries, helping us to raise funds for these vital youth HIV/AIDS charities.” Ann-Sofie Johansson, Head of Design, H&M.

Whether it be colourful African trims on blouses and bustiers, graphic black and white Maori prints on leggings and crop-tops, or the folkloric Inuit designs from Greenland on draped T-shirts, this year’s FAA collection puts global tribes in a 21st century context.

As well as macrame, fringed and dip-dyed pieces for girls and printed T-shirts and cropped harem trousers for guys, the collection also includes fashion accessories such as hats, footwearand jewellery, as well as special pieces such as iPhone cases, festival ponchos, hammocks and plasters.

Once again, FAA will be supporting a range of international charities each promoting the safe sex message:

Designers Against AIDS (DAA): An organisation which trains and educates young people in HIV/AIDS awareness, so they can spread the message within their own communities

MTV Staying Alive Foundation: MTV’s global campaign to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. Their Staying Alive Award offers grants to young people focused on preventing the spread of HIV.

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA): The task of UNFPA is to support each individual’s right to good health and equal rights.

YouthAIDS: A HIV/AIDS prevention initiative of Population Services International (PSI) which reaches more than 600 million young people in more than 60 countries.

She has created a fresh and colorful world, revisiting the floral pattern that has been Cacharel's emblematic symbol for decades. She designed for Cacharel a paradise strewn with exuberantly colored flowers, where exotic birds of paradise come to gather their nectar…
It is in this paradisiacal case that Cacharel fragrances flourish for this limited edition.

Charlotte Gastaut graduated at ESAG Penninghen, she first made her mark working for international magazines. She went on to publish her own illustrated books, which have since been translated and sold throughout the world.

How would you define your universe?
I love looking all around.
Which artists inspire you?
Kay Nielsen, John Bauer, Jeanne Lanvin, Kitty Crowther, Gilles Barbier and Dalida.
What does the brand Cacharel mean to you?
The south, liberty print. Lightness and the 1970s.
What are the similarities with your universe?
Freshness.
Have you already worn Cacharel fragrances?
No. But my cousin has always worn Noa.
As an illustrator, is this the first time you've worked with a brand?
Yes. I've been working exclusively in publishing for several years. This meeting with Cacharel was one of the first projects brought to me by Costume Trois Pièces (who recently became my agents). I have to admit that I was thrilled!
Was the approach different from the one you take when you're making books?
It's a more complicated approach because you have to take into account very elaborate specifications. I generally work in publishing, so I often have only to deal with myself. The appeal of working for a brand like Cacharel is being able to adapt to all of these requirements while enjoying yourself. It's very gratifying when the project is accepted because you know you've done a good job and you have satisfied the large number of people involved.
What were your inspirations in designing this collection?
They came from the various artistic directions that the Cacharel team gave me and the synthesis that I was able to make of it in my work. I took a more Japanese-inspired approach from the start. The color chart also helped steer the project tremendously.
What do the different elements represent?
The birds flying on the bottles? The apples, branches and disproportionate flowers evoke the theme "Paradise", which was the guideline. I introduced the birds to add a bit of lightness and freedom. Swallows to represent spring and rebirth. Like a garden in Paradise where swallows come to rest after the winter.
How would you define the Cacharel Paradise? What did you want to bring?
The Cacharel Paradise is frequented by blossoming young women.
There are flowers and a gentle breeze blowing through them. It might look like a Nabis painting.
Gentle, dense and full of color.
What is your Paradise?
The sea.
What is its fragrance?
A stone warmed by the sun. A sweet, warm tomato.

Each Cacharel perfume is an original fragrance, a unique story. In the sillage of these mythical elixirs an olfactory paradise has emerged, a haven of femininity, softness and sensuality.

Moreover, the "moral management" of people at the same time the human value wiped out at work and in social and political dimension now arises as more and more crucial issue.Posing as a title and primarily as a starting point above the average, the exhibiton Human Resources, reversing any negative connotation of the word, looking for the true dynamics of the human unit, refers to the vital importance of the individual, the man who through their personal social and professional interactions of crushed but still survives, is governed by the controversy of course, but still walking.In a time of desperate need for a redefinition of the atomic weight issues such as dialogue and loneliness, intimacy and the unfamiliar, the search of personal stigma against the dominance of the strongest, penetrating the restatement of the human form, articulating issues sharper from the simple need to record the human figure and portraiture in the representational artwork. "Human resources" maintains the anthropocentric character, examines the man behind the man, the right to emotional differences that should not be construed as impracticable luxury." 16th Amsterdam Fashion Week with a royal touch: The guests

The 16th edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week (25-29 january 2012) has been very successful according to the organization. The Amsterdam Fashion Week UPTOWN program at the Westergasterrein attracted nearly 20,000 visitors. Since the launch of the first Athens Exclusive Designers Week, AXDW is aiming to export greek fashion globally and it seems that next week this effort will be accomplished.

On the 9th of February Vassilis Zoulias will be realizing his first fashion show in New York, presenting his "New Look New York" demi couture collection. This collection explores a variety of traditional fabrics like cashmere, silk crepe marocain, satin duchesse, silk shantung, faille, taffeta and old couture techniques. The starting point of this presentation was the need to pay homage to the timeless images of elegant women during the heyday of couture. An era that still defines the way we view style today. The designer's aim is to transport guests to a bygone world, the perfumed atmosphere of a "salon couture" where the models act as well bred, slightly naughty "grandes dames" and the fashion displays an eye popping opulence.

Athens Xclusive Designers Week and Nolcha Fashion Week in New York started an exclusive cooperation, Vassilis Zoulias will represent AXDW at the Big Apple and in the same context, designer Danilo Gabrieli will be representing Nolcha Fashion Week at Athens Xclusive Designers Week taking place in March 2012.

Yesterday evening fashion met technology at bar restaurant Mezzanine (formerly Interni) in the center of Athens. In a magical evening that combined the romance of yesterday and innovation of today, the fashion designer Vassilis Zoulias joined forces with Microsoft and Nokia, organizing an interactive fashion cocktail party, featuring the creations of retro and the new phone Windows ® Phone Nokia Lumia 800.

The guests had the opportunity to enjoy a journey through time with history of the telephone, through snapshots of previous decades.

And got to see the Windows ® Phone Nokia Lumia 800. The smartphone was created to make our daily experience even more unique.

Chemistry and Fashion @ Tony Cohen for DSM

This afternoon at the 16th Amsterdam Fashion Week Tony Cohen presented his fall/winter 2012/2012 collection in the Westergasfabriek near the center of the capital of The Netherlands.

Tony Cohen collaborated with DSM, a dutch company active in health, nutrition and materials like fibers.
Man-made fibers are used in almost every collection in the global textile industry.
DSM claims that substances are not only prettier and prettier in color, by adding man-made fibers but are also more workable, they are better and last longer. The prejudices of the past for treatment of non-natural materials into substances are therefore of the past according to DSM. With the latest technological developments, the use of man-made fibers to ensure that designs are produced as signed by the designer.

A dream for Tony Cohen came true by being able to stand at the 'cradle' of fabric development, from raw material till the thread.

A collection with feminine and elegant pieces, long and sleek silhouettes, refined draping techniques and fashion forward materials as you can seen in my photo review.

Sjaak Hullekes opens Amsterdam Fashion Week

This evening at the Westergasfabriek in the capital of the Netherlands was the opening of 16th Amsterdam Fashion Week by Sjaak Hullekes with his collection "Bohemian Dandy".

His show started with a perfomance of male dancers.

His autumn/winter 2012-2013 collection contains a carefully considered combination of loose-fitting and slim cut items into different layers. Hullekes looking for ways to relax in the present society and designed a collection inspired by the raw materials, colors and elements of our planet, the essence of our lives. Hullekes had a total collection look with shoes, hats, scarves, gloves, overcoats which the retro styles and bohemian dandy richly represented.

This week my blog will be about dutch fashion, today starts Amsterdam Fashion Week at the Westergasfabriek near the center of Amsterdam.
Sjaak Hullekes will officially open the fashion week around seven o'clock, the winner of the Mercedes-Benz Dutch Fashion Awards 2009.
